Services offered by Oosterhof Electrical Services in Kingston, Ontario

The Micro Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program, as sponsored by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), is a new effort that Oosterhof Electrical Services is proud to be a part of. The FIT program is enabled by the Green Energy and the Green Economy Act of 2009 and is implemented by the OPA. It is meant to encourage the generation of renewable energy.

Micro-FIT projects are those 10 kilowatts or less, so homeowners, small businesses, and farms are the most likely to benefit from this new initiative. Larger projects, over 10 kilowatts, are intended for the FIT program.

How to Participate:

  • One may own their own project
  • Leasing property to a renewable energy developer
  • Lease equipment for the project
  • Or, develop a neighbourhood renewable energy project.

If you own a micro-FIT project, you will have to hire a qualified installer. A qualified installer will:

  • have experience installing grid-connected renewable energy projects in Ontario, with particular experience installing your technology of choice
  • have the proper licensing and certifications as applicable
  • have general liability insurance.

Oosterhof Electrical Services is registered as a qualified installer for renewable energy projects.

Compensation begins after you have accepted a micro-FIT contract. You will receive payment for each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity produced from your project for the duration of the contract. Payments are received from your local distribution company.
